The second big highlight of Omega’s 2016 Baselworld releases is this one, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch CK 2998 replica tribute, ref 311.33.40.30.02.001. I’m no Speedy connoisseur, but as I understand it the original OMEGA CK2998 was released in 1959 as the second generation of Speedmaster watches (succeeding the “broad arrow” CK2915 and replaced in 1962 by the ref 105.002) and is now highly sought-after today.
Will be interesting to see how collectors perceive this Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch chronograph replica watch, but historical context aside and as for me a modern day watch lover, I will say it is a sharp looking watch. More looks — including a short video — below.This year, OMEGA uses this classic model as inspiration for the new OMEGA Speedmaster “CK2998” Limited Edition. Interestingly Omega has opted for the same manual wind OMEGA Caliber 1861 (Lemania base) used in the very first Moonwatch.

In keeping with tradition, the best fake Omega Speedmaster watch retains its classic Alpha hands and symmetrical stainless steel case, with three deep blue sub-dials. This color theme continues on the bezel with its tachymeter base scale, the minutes track, as well as on the leather strap which includes subtle beige stitching. For the chronograph seconds hand, OMEGA has reintroduced the “lollipop” style which is linked to the original model.

Also, the original Speedmaster Seahorse medallion has been reintroduced and embossed on the screw-in caseback.
