The Swiss watchmaker will soon start selling its rose gold Milus Heritage Snow Star limited edition replica watch offered in an elegant rose gold case with a pair of hideous cufflinks.
According to the Swiss watchmaker, a number of Milus Snow Star timekeepers were bought in order to prepare so called “Life Barter Kit” for the US NAVY pilots. Besides the watch, the kit also included a gold chain with a gold pendant, as well as a pair of rings, also made of the same precious metal.
Although clearly not the biggest name in the world of luxury watches, the Swiss-based brand that was established 92 years ago still has a (hi)story to sell.
Like many local brands, during the World War II Milus sold a number of their watches to at least one of the opposing forces. Although the watches weren’t worn in dogfights by heroic pilots of the Soviet Il-2 Shturmovik, the American P-51 Mustang, the British de Havilland Mosquito, or even the German Messerschmitt BF-109, they certainly played their role in the great war.
Guys from Milus seem to take the idea of paying homage to the good old times somewhat literally and offered a survival kit of their own that now includes a rose gold hand-wound elegant fake Milus Heritage Snow Star watch, as well as a pair of cufflinks and an extra NATO-style nylon strap.
If a plane was shot over the enemy territory, its surviving pilot could use the trinkets to buy friendliness of the local population together with civilian clothing and all sort of stuff one can use in order to avoid visiting the local Gestapo office.
Not particularly impressive, but, hey, that’s a vintage caliber that you will have a hard time finding in mint conditions! On the other hand, servicing such a timepiece maybe a bit of a problem, when compared to more modern ebauches.
Only 40 millimeters in diameter (a bit too large for a dressy timekeeper,) the case still doesn’t look ridiculously large compared to the 26 mm NOS (“new old stock”) manually-wound ETA caliber 2408 with an instant date function.
Beating at a very slow (by today’s standards) frequency of only 18,000 vibrations per hour, the movement is built on 17 jewels and offers only 36 hours of power reserve.
The only thing that bothers me in this particular case is the set of cuff-links that are offered with the package.
As usual for classic timepieces, the new Milus Heritage Snow Star offers superb legibility with its rose gold plated hands and hour markers looking very contrast on a silvered background of the flat dial.
The faceted indices look somewhat crude (if not awkward,) yet I could live with that.
With their stylized fighter plane decoration with a rose gold propeller on the outside, they look like a study in bad taste. I really can’t imagine myself wearing this abomination.
Not sure whether they considered offering the new package as a part of the new “Life Barter Kit,” but finally they decided to limit the production of the timekeeper at a more or less exclusive run of only 99 pieces.
