Ingenieur Chronographe Sport Edition « 50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG »

IWC unveiled the new Ingenieur collection in spring, with a design that is starkly reminiscent of the first generations of the stylish classic from the 1950s. The collection will be available from autumn, but the watch family is already getting one new member: the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG” .
 
Limited to 250 watches, the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG” (Ref. IW380902) is driven by the IWC-manufactured 89361 calibre with flyback function. The case is made of titanium and the dial with tachymeter scale is silver-plated. Like the first Ingenieur from 1955, this timepiece features a soft-iron cage for protection against magnetic fields. The lower part of the cage is visible through the sapphire-glass back and emulates the appearance of an AMG brake disc with in- dentations arranged in a radial formation. The engraving “A tribute to one men, one engine” is a reminder that the performance components from Mercedes-AMG are assembled from the bottom up in the engine manufacturing department by a single mechanic.

The watch was presented last weekend at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring north loop track known as the “Green Hell”. As a special highlight, Mercedes-Benz introduced the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 at this event – an exclusive special edition with a limited run of only five cars to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. Every buyer of the car also receives an Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG”. The dial design of the IWC timepiece is modelled on the typical colour combinations of racetracks such as the Nürburgring – with red and white for the kerbs and black for the asphalt.

Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50.

Starting with the Iwc 1953 Watches Replica Big Pilot’s Watch Heritage, the newest piece is quite similar to previous Big Pilot’s Watches together with the exception of case material, which is now either bronze or titanium, and the inclusion of this very striking IWC 52110 in-house manufacture caliber. The standard Big Pilot’s 51111 caliber features more stones at 42 but beats in a significantly slower 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz). Otherwise, the 46.2mm instance, touch crown, and classic inspired leather strap stay similar in fashion to previous Big Pilot’s. For anyone with more regular wrists and bank account, IWC also have produced the Mark XVIII in a particular Heritage edition. The new IWC Pilot’s Mark XVIII Heritage keeps the aviation style dial and hands as well as the small 40mm case dimensions from previous models. New is using titanium for a case material which gives the piece a utilitarian feel as well as a considerably lighter overall weight reduction. The inclusion of IWC’s 35111 caliber also distinguishes this new version from it’s forebears and although it isn’t a totally in-house grade like those in the Heritage Big Pilot’s, it is still a competent 25-jewel motion based on the Sellita SW300 as opposed to the 21-jewel, ETA 2892 base movement found in the normal IWC Mark XVIII. A marginally less impressive caliber like the 35111 with a more approachable 42-hour power reserve also helps keep the cost somewhat reasonable.

IWC also made an appearance at the event as the sponsor of the Mercedes-AMG team HTP Motorsport, with Dominik Baumann (Austria), Maximilian Buhk (Germany), Edoardo Mortara (Italy) and Edward Sandström (Sweden). The AMG pilots were in a promising position when, just prior to the end of the race, rain set in – and the GT3, with its slick tyres, skidded on the racetrack.
